RE: Allergy Shots -- End of RVing??

Have you wife discuss with your doctor about doing it herself. Just as david_42 said, the doctor will want to monitor for the first few months. My wife does her own.

RE: Are There Stupid Questions?

My $0.02.
1. The temperatures where I live get down to the middle 20's. Do I need to winterize?
Yup, you're a moron.
2. What is the Tow/Haul mode for on the transmission?
Considering the marketing hype and BS we get out of car manufacturers, even I researched what that was.
3. The owner's manual says to change the oil every 7500 miles. Is that OK?
Due to marketing hype by both oil companies and car/truck manufacturers, if I was not familiar with the engine, I would check that also myself.
4. Are two 6 volt batteries wired to make 12 volts the same volts as one 12 volt battery?
With the number of people who are not as wise and instructed as we are about electrical systems, I would say that is a good question. Better ask than to blow up a battery or burn something up.
5. The owner's manual says no trailer towing for the first 500 miles, but I need to make a trip with the trailer before I reach 500 miles. Is that OK?
Only if you run every red light.
6. My generator requires a certain weight and API grade of oil, but the manual does not say whether that oil can be synthetic, just that it must be a certain API grade and weight. Is it OK to use synthetic that meets the weight and API requirements?
See above comment about marketing hype.
7. I am plugged into shore power with my tailer. I saw a portable heater in Walmart that I am thinking of using in the trailer to supplement the furnace. Can I do that?
ok - "here's your sign"
8. Can I use the RV without turning on the water heater? Will that hurt the water heater?
There are some things you should have learned before you started driving a car.
9. Can I stay overnight in the trailer without unhooking it from the truck?
I feel that is a valid question from someone who has just started RV'ing
10. Do I need insurance on the trailer?
In the case of this question, I need you to take the rv back to the dealership and drop it off. Then take the tow vehicle and return it to the dealership. If you own or drive any cars, please sell them or return them immediately to the dealership. Why? You are definately too stupid to be behind the wheel.

Given that it is older than 10 years, what campground would let it in?

RE: Exceeding hitch weight?

There is a rated limit on the hitch for a reason. And using a weight distribution hitch does not change the ratings for your hitch.
I dont know where you got the 1186, but if that weight is without water, propane, batteries and/or all the stuff that you put in in the trailer when you travel, that number is going to very easily get a lot higher.
It doesnt matter if you dont travel that far or very often. You are over the limits for the hitch.
A weight distribution hitch distributes the weight that is normally focused on the rear axle back onto the axles of the trailer and also onto the front axle of the truck, but the weight on the hitch does not change or move.
There will be those that will say "well, you are only over by a little bit, you will be ok" Overloaded is overloaded and over the rating is over the rating. Dont do it. Is it worth your life, your passengers lives, or others on the road near you when that hitch fails and the trailer and your truck flies uncontrolled across the road?

RE: Cell phone in blackwater tank, OOPS!

First put the phone on vibrate and anytime the level sensors are reading incorrect, just dial the # and clean the tank.
Combine that w/ a bag of ice and the geo method and I think you are on to something.

RE: Do you smoke in your RV

I tried smoking in my trailer once, but the ashes kept falling on the carpet and catching it on fire. On top of that, some of the fat from the turkey also dripped on the carpet so I had to replace the entire carpet.
It is a lot easier to get the charcoal in the smoker when it is outside anyway.

RE: Cell phone in blackwater tank, OOPS!

When I first saw this thread, I was flushed with excitement to have the opportunity to share some bathroom humor. But after reading all the entries I am moved by the positive responses by people who wanted to help. This wiped out my desire to flood the thread with bad puns.
I am sure this is a relief to everyone to hear that the phone was retrieved.

RE: Check list for leaving the RV Park

STEPS..put your steps up
and don't forget the dog, kids and wife (in that order).
You mean you are supposed to take the wife with you!?!?!? So that is what I have been doing wrong!
Seriously, I always do a final walk around right before we start the engine. I start on the inside, check every single vent from front to back, then check the security of the tie downs for the toys, then check the cabinets and refrigerator. Step out, lock the door, then start checking every external access door by pulling on it to make sure it is locked, going from the right rear of the vehicle to the front - checking to make sure nothing got dropped in front of the truck, and down the left side. Coming down the left side, check the umbilical cord, brake away cable, and hitch - even if we did not unhitch. Now, at the rear, I check the marker lights, signal lights and brake lights (with DW at the wheel).
Then we are ready to go.

C'mon. Give me a break! Do you think they're flying outside? Anyway, do the wild birds upset you, too? Or don't they drop "little bombs?"

RE: Charging for pets

I have cockatiels. Most CG owners have no idea what they are. I've never had to pay extra for them.
Great! Now not only do we have to deal with stepping in dog poop, now we have campers' pets flying around and dropping little bombs on our heads!!!

RE: Macerator connection to tanks

Where can you find a clear 45* fitting with the "ears" at both ends?
I have been looking all over the place and finally found it here.

Macerator connection to tanks

I just got my brand new macerator this weekedn! I wired it in tested it in the driveway. It works fantastic. I wish I had gotten this a year ago!
One minor problem. When done pumping, there is still a couple of cups of liquid in the waste pipe. This is because even though you have a 3" connection to the trailer, there is only a 1" hole to the pump. When you remove the macerator, you spill this on the ground. I am looking for a solution for this. Is there a 45degree elbow that can be used? Or do you use a short piece of stinky slinky to hook it up? Or am I missing something? (besides my marbles)
=================
As a side note, as my generator is right above the outlets for my gray and black tank, I wired the macerator to the power cables going to the starter for the generator. This way I did not have to run large cables back to the batteries.
